Doing Business with Eclipse Magnetics after Brexit

Your Questions Answered

We are fully committed to supporting our worldwide customer base and we are working hard to ensure a smooth transition for all our customers as the UK leaves the EU. As a guide, please see answers to frequently asked questions about Brexit.

  • Are you expecting your stock levels to be impacted by Brexit?

No not by Brexit.

  • Should I expect extended delivery times from Eclipse to my business in the EU?

Yes, we are expecting this to be the case for several months while all parts involved in the delivery process adapt to new systems and processes. To ensure goods aren’t delayed on export we have been working hard to ensure our paperwork is accurate and compliant and that our freight forwarders have all the information they need to clear export customs.

  • Have freight prices increased since 1st January 2021?

Due to the impact of both the COVID-19 pandemic and Brexit freight prices are currently extremely volatile, we are partnered with a number of freight forwarders and are working hard to keep any impact to a minimum.

  • Will the products I am buying be subject to duties and taxes on import to the EU?

The result of the new UK-EU trade agreement is that imports to the EU from the UK will be subject to import duties unless the goods are proven to be of UK origin, in which case they will qualify for duty-free trade. If the goods originate from anywhere other than the UK then duty charges will apply.

Duty is determined by the tariff classification of the goods and the EU Common Customs Tariff rates. Additionally, you will need to account for VAT on the imported goods. The rate and payment method will depend on your country’s VAT system and the arrangements you have in place locally.

  • If the products I am buying are of UK origin how will this be proven so that I can benefit from preferential duty rates?

In order to benefit from preferential duty rates you must prove that the goods you are importing are of UK origin. We have been advised that for 2021 an exporter’s invoice declaration is acceptable evidence for you to claim this benefit. All our invoices state the following:

‘The exporter of the products covered by this document (Exporter Reference GB172401984001) declares that, except where otherwise clearly indicated, these products are of UK preferential origin.’

  • How can I find out the tariff code and country of origin for the products I buy from you?

If you would like to receive more detail about the country of origin and tariff classification of the products you buy from Eclipse Magnetics then please email us at info@eclipsemagnetics.com.

  • Will my invoice detail the tariff code and country of origin for the products I buy?

All invoices going to customers outside of the UK and to Northern Ireland will contain this detail, invoices to UK customers don’t show this detail. If you are a customer based in the UK and you would like the foreign trade data for the products you buy please email us at info@eclipsemagnetics.com.

  • What Incoterms do you work with for shipments to the EU?

We intend to work to the following Incoterms unless we have a prior alternative arrangement in place:

FCA Eclipse Magnetics, Sheffield, UK, Incoterms 2020. The export customs entry charge will be added to your invoice.

Please use this term when you want to arrange collection from our premises. Eclipse Magnetics will retain responsibility for organising the export customs entry as this is our legal responsibility, and also for loading the goods to your carrier’s vehicle. We will add the export customs entry charge to your invoice at cost, please ensure your nominated freight forwarder doesn’t charge you again.

DAP buyer’s premises or other named place, Incoterms 2020. All delivery charges will be added to your invoice.

Please use this term when you would like us to arrange delivery to your premises or another named place. Under this Incoterm you will need to arrange import customs clearance and unloading of the goods at your premises.

  • What information do you need from me prior to my order being?

As the importer you will need to arrange import customs clearance. Where Eclipse Magnetics is organising your shipment we require two pieces of information from you to help avoid delays at import:

Your EORI number to identify you at customs (Economic Operators Registration and Identification Number)

Your contact details for import clearance. This could be somebody within your business or your appointed customs agent if you have one in place.

If you haven’t already sent us this information please forward it at your earliest convenience to info@eclipsemagnetics.com.

  • Does any wood packaging material (WPM) used in our shipments meet ISPM15 international standards?

Yes all wooden packaging materials are ISPM compliant.

  • In January 2021, all products that fall under the current CE marking requirements will need to change to the new UKCA labelling for supply in the UK. How does Eclipse Magnetics intend to mark products going forward?

From January 2022, Eclipse Magnetics products which fall under the current CE marking requirements will display the CE and UKCA marks. This guarantees products shipped to UK & European customers are compliant to the Machinery Directive regulations following the Brexit deal.
